LUBBOCK, Texas -- TCU track and field wrapped up the regular season with one of the team's most productive outings on the season. The meet as a whole included a new school record, numerous personal-bests, and several Horned Frogs moving up the NCAA Indoor Qualifying list.
The tandem of Jostyn Andrews, Emmanuel Ogwo, Kevin McClanahan, and Derrick Mokaleng broke a 34 year-old school record in the 4X400 with a mark of 3:04.25. The previous record was 3:04.82 and was set in 1984. TCU's 4X4 relay ranks No.4 in the nation and has recorded four first-place finishes in a row.
Mokaleng's 45.76 mark in the 400m from Friday night ranks No.2 nationally, up 12 spots from his previous rank.
After moving into the top 10 in the triple jump on Friday night, Scotty Newton set a new season-best in the long jump with a 7.64m mark. Newton finished second overall, one spot ahead of TCU alum Ramone Bailey who jumped 7.62m.
Darrion Flowers ran a 20.90 mark in the 200m, his best so far this season, moving him into the top 16 nationally with a chance to qualify for the national meet.
"This was the best meet we've had in a long time," head coach Darryl Anderson said. "When you end the day with the mile relay breaking the school record and getting the fourth fastest time in the country, and add Darrion running 20.90 in the 200, Scotty jumping 25 feet in the long jump, everything we accomplished yesterday, it was an outstanding meet. We're going to have a lot of guys are going to get into the national meet because of their performances this meet, like Jalen and Emeilo in the 60 and Derrick in the 400m. We had a couple of the girls perform well. The jump girls did well, Hope Glenn competed well in the 60, Yasmin Brooks showed up and ran well in the hurdles, and then Brittney Trought is getting better each week. We made progress across the board this weekend, now we just have to get ready for Big 12s and continue to move forward into the national meet."
The Horned Frogs return to action at the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa, scheduled for Feb. 23-24.
